1-7 October Breastfeeding Week
Every year, countries around the world have one week of announcing Breastfeeding Week for a very good reason: breastfeeding is one of the most effective ways to provide children all around the world with the best and equal way to start their lives. It is the most important thing for a child to be fed in the first years of their lives. All the countries do activities and forums to bring awareness to breastfeeding which is very important for the baby’s future.
Breastfeeding for Future
Feeding infants with only breastmilk for the first six months of life, helps them grow, prevent undernutrition, promote brain development, and reduce the risk that children will become overweight. Breastfeeding is also a newborn’s first vaccine, providing vital antibodies and an immunity boost.
From the earliest years of a child’s life, breastfeeding means the difference between life and death. Getting the newborns to their mother’s breast within the first hour of life, guards them against newborn deaths. Especially in emergency conditions of any kind, when there is no clean water and basic food, breastfeeding guarantees a safe, nutritious and accessible food source for infants.
There are many reasons why millions of women are unable to start and go on breastfeeding their babies successfully. Some of the women have really poor conditions and they can not provide breastmilk. But there are some women who do not breastfeed for aesthetic conditions, the babies have other substitutes in maternity facilities. That is an injustice.
We must find new ways, a new political will to help all the babies wherever they live, they have the right to benefit from the lifesaving benefits of breastfeeding.
Women Can Help Women
There are a lot of ways how women can help each other for breastfeeding with the right counseling and programs. With better monitoring systems to track breastfeeding trends, the community will have more information and experience in both maternity and breastfeeding, and improved breastfeeding counseling can support health facilities.
Breastfeeding is the foundation for life and gives growing children a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to grow and develop to their full potential equally.
